First established in the early 1940s to cater to returning WWII veterans, development within the neighbourhood continued well into the 1970s. Did you know? Elmwood Park was formerly known as Grierson Estate (named after Edward “Del” Delgare Grierson, an Edmonton city councillor 1860 -1922). The name was changed to Elmwood Park in 1945 as a nod to the many Elm trees planted by veterans along the boulevards.

The community also boasts an above-average transit score, thanks to its proximity to the Coliseum LRT Station (Capital Line) and transit center. Several bus routes are also in operation throughout the area.
Did you know? Edmonton’s Capital LRT line expansion will see a 4.5 km southwards track extension from Century Park to Ellerslie Road. As a result, Elmwood Park residents will soon have access to every corner of the city via light rail transit.
