Mayliewan takes its name from the Cantonese word for beautiful bay. Although there are no bays to be seen this far inland, there are two stormwater management lakes within easy access from most homes, giving this small neighbourhood just the accent it needs to earn the "beautiful" portion of its name. This residential neighbourhood in Edmonton's Lake District, much like the adjacent water-themed Belle Rive is safe, spacious, and comprised mostly of single-detached homes, both single and double-storeyed. The area itself is family-friendly and right next to Florence Hallock School and St. John Bosco School. There’s a small commercial area along 160 Ave NW, which cuts through the neighbourhood for the added convenience of homebuyers.
