Gym memberships and language courses aside, here are nine ultra-easy, life-changing New Year’s resolutions ideas you’ll definitely be able to stick to.
“Trust your gut” is a phrase that gets tossed around a lot – and for good reason. Science has proven that listening to your gut reaction will actually keep you from making mistakes! Get started today with these 9 Ways to Trust Your Gut.
Research shows that those who sit for more than eight hours a day have an increased risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease, cancer and more. The good news is that 60 to 75 mins of standing/ physical activity a day can counteract sitting effects – all you need to do is make a few changes such as:
Self-compassion won’t just improve your outlook on life; it will also reduce self-criticism, anxiety, depression, fear and much more. Tips to improve self-compassion include developing self-awareness, practicing self-praise and embracing your imperfections (because hey, we all have them).
There are many reasons to pay a (genuine) compliment to someone every day – including health benefits, improved social relationships and a more positive mindset over time. Not to mention, a heartfelt compliment can really make someone’s day.
Next to a healthy diet and regular physical activity, a good night’s sleep is detrimental to helping us look and feel our best. In fact, better sleep may be the key to all your New Year’s resolutions as it’s been proven to improve our moods, memory, eating habits, creativity, stress levels and more!
Reduce financial stress and reach your savings goals faster by paying yourself first. Often referred to as the golden rule of personal finance, this popular savings method is known to boost wealth over time. All you need to do is set savings aside before tackling monthly expenses (instead of the other way around).
Make your health a priority and avoid missed visits by scheduling annual appointments now. Begin with any/all family doctor’s visits (i.e. if you’re due for a follow-up or check-up), then call your dentist, optometrist, chiropractor etc.
Over and over again, reading has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, increase mental clarity and improve quality of life. Start small by committing to a few pages every night before bed (reading helps you sleep, too). Alternatively, audiobooks are also known to improve concentration, imagination and learning while saving time.
Choose a drawer, shelf, or corner to declutter each week. Small, consistent efforts can lead to a more organized and peaceful living environment over time.
Aim to turn off electronic devices at least 30 minutes before sleeping. Reducing screen exposure can enhance sleep quality and overall well-being.
Spend 5-10 minutes daily stretching your muscles. Regular stretching can improve flexibility, reduce muscle tension, and enhance circulation.
Improve your health with the simple act of staying hydrated. While the traditional “8 cups a day” was once the rule of thumb, how much water you (really) need depends on your age, activity level, gender and a variety of other conditions. Dieticians of Canada now recommend (at least) nine cups a day for women and 12 cups a day for men.
Hint: Less sleep = increased dehydration, so be sure to up your H2O on those tired-feeling days
The trick to sticking with your resolutions doesn’t depend on how motivated you are, but rather, on your ability to take action. Whatever you envision for 2025, the secret to achieving your goals will always be to take that first step. If your goal is to walk for 30 mins every day, start with a trip around the block. If you’d like to get organized, start with one drawer. Every step you take is a step toward your end goal – as long as you start.
